Yuzu and Sencha Tallow Soap: Earthy, Aromatic, and Refreshing

Our Green soap is made with French Green Clay, E3Live AFA algae, regenerative tallow®, japanese green tea, sea salt, A2/A2 regenerative dairy, and scented with bright Yuzu citrus essential oil from Japan.

Our Yuzu and Sencha tallow soap is Earthy and aromatic, inspired by the incredible depths of Japanese winters. It is a well-balanced blend comprised of high-quality Japanese sencha tea, locally sourced from small-batch tea company Asha Tea House, and a dash of yuzu lemon. This spicy citrus fruit reaches its peak around the December solstice.

This rich and hydrating tallow soap is hand-crafted from the rendered fat of Northern California pasture-raised cattle and blended with extra-virgin olive oil grown by the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation for an incredibly pleasing and refreshing cleansing experience.

Use to cleanse, lightly exfoliate, and tone skin of all types. We feature powerfully absorbent French green clay, and nutrient-rich E3Live organic blue-green algae called Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA). This algae is harvested from the pristine waters of Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon, USA, which draws impurities out of the skin, helping to support and strengthen skin cells and increasing circulation.

Perfect for:

  • Daily Cleansing: Suitable for all skin types.
  • Exfoliation: Lightly exfoliates and tones the skin.
  • Hydration: Keeps your skin nourished and moisturized.

Ingredients:

Saponified Suet Tallow (fat) from certified regeneratively-raised Northern California cattle, organic marigold CO2 extract (Calendula), Séka Hills extra-virgin olive oil, organic rose (Rosa) hydrosol, organic orange (Citrus sinensis) blossom hydrosol, Celtic Sea Salt®, French green clay, E3Live algae, A2/A2 regenerative dairy,  Japanese Kirishima sencha tea (Camellia sinensis), and organic yuzu (Citrus junos) absolute.

The bar measures 4.9 ounces and is cold-processed.

When I saw friends with children suffering from eczema, I realized there was something I could do. Leveraging my experience as a holistic nutrition chef specializing in Ancestral diets, I knew that specific high-quality, local ingredients could offer relief.

In 2014, while advancing my career as a French chocolatier, I had a spark of inspiration. What if I created a premium quality skincare line using only regional ingredients and revived the traditional use of nourishing, pasture-raised animal fats? These natural elements have long been known to help with skin conditions such as dryness and irritation.

My vision began to take shape. I aimed to elevate skincare by emphasizing sustainability and local resources. As a woman with indigenous roots, I believe in a deep connection to what we put on our skin and use in our homes. This connection to the land, environment, and seasons, along with my community through the farmers’ market, inspired me to build my brand around the Slow Body Movement®.

Summer Solace Founder, Megan Bre Camp

"Eating organic, seasonally, and regionally is wise for sound health and nutrition. What we put on our skin should also reflect our local environment- it's plants and animals that sequester carbon from the atmosphere and are grown and grazed on regenerative soil, just as our ancestors have"  -Megan Bre Camp, Founder and CEO of Summer Solace.

When I saw friends with children suffering from eczema, I realized there was something I could do. Based on my time as a holistic nutrition chef specializing in Ancestral diets, I knew specific high-quality, local ingredients could help.

In 2014, as I was furthering my career as a French chocolatier, my mind lit up with an idea. What if I created a premium quality skincare line using only regional ingredients and revived the traditional use of nourishing, pasture-raised animal fats that can help more people who battled skin conditions like dry skin or irritations?

My dream started to take form. Moreover, my brand would take skin care further and focus on sustainability and local resources.

As a woman with indigenous roots, we should have a connection to what we put on our skin and use in our homes—connecting to the land, environment, and seasons and my community through the farmers’ market sparked me to build my brand around the Slow Body Movement™.

Every ingredient has a story that we can tell. I always wanted to source from the highest quality and ethically responsible communities of ranchers and farmers.

I wanted to work with people with the purpose and sourcing ingredients from the local California sustainable and regenerative agricultural community.

Summer Solace Tallow is a small, family-owned business dedicated to producing slow-made, deeply nourishing, organic tallow-based skincare and home goods, established in Spring 2014 by organic chef and gardener Megan Bre Camp in Oakland, California.

Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, in a Military family and transplanted to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004, Megan is deeply committed to sustainable living. With indigenous roots in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and the Filipino countryside, respect for animals and the environment and a strong spiritual connection to nature are woven into her genetic makeup.

Whether preparing seasonal and locally-grown foods for family and friends or crafting any of her Summer Solace Tallow balms, soaps, or candles, Megan is dedicated to reviving traditional techniques in all facets of her work. By encouraging the use of all parts of the pasture-raised animal, embracing the Bay Area's seasonal shifts, and prioritizing organic and locally sourced ingredients, Summer Solace epitomizes the Slow Body Care Movement™.

The Summer Solace production process starts with obtaining suet, the fat naturally surrounding the kidneys and loins, from cattle pasture-raised on local Bay Area ranches by Stemple Creek Ranch in Tomales Bay. The suet then gets rendered into rich tallow, infused with organic Calendula flower wax, and combined with award-winning California extra-virgin olive oil grown by the Yoche Dehe Wintun Nation.

This luxurious and soothing blend is the basis of nearly all of our products. In addition to crafting ultra-nourishing pure tallow moisturizers and soaps, Summer Solace prides itself on having an array of aromatherapeutic balms, soaps, and candles, each meticulously formulated to create evocative and unique scent profiles.

As a producer and board member of Fibershed and Fibershed marketplace, Summer Solace has a booth at local Bay Area Farmers Markets where they curate Fibershed woolen textiles and naturally tanned sheepskins.

About Megan: Megan studied culinary arts at the University of Alaska Anchorage and horticulture and permaculture at Merritt College in Oakland, California.

She then went on to manage and cook in various San Francisco Bay Area kitchens, including Standard Fare and Three Stone Hearth, and the kitchen of a French confectionary where she worked as a chocolatier. Megan enjoys cooking with local and seasonal ingredients, working in her organic garden, and crafting perfumes in her spare time. She is a proud mother of her daughters Ulrikke and Severin and a loving wife to her husband, Brian.

Megan is a producer and board member of Northern California Fibershed™ and Fibershed Marketplace and a member of Land to Market™ verified regenerative agriculture.

New to tallow balm? Here's how to store it:

Place your tallow balm in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight.

Why do you not whip your balms?

We refrain from whipping our balm products or incorporating water into them.

Whipping introduces air and bacteria, potentially misleading consumers with inflated volume.

Picture a whipped product left on a shelf during summer—it would likely melt, leaving only half the product in the jar.

Instead, we meticulously hand-pour our tallow to preserve its full benefits. We consider whipping an amateur technique employed to conceal the scent of inadequately rendered tallow.

Our commitment lies in revealing the authentic essence of our fresh suet tallow through careful hand-pouring.

Want to adjust your balm's texture?

Achieve your preferred texture by immersing the closed container in warm water. Once melted, remove the lid and let it cool in the refrigerator. This will ensure your balm remains soft and easy to spread. Remember, tallow behaves like many natural fats – solidifying in cold conditions and becoming soft in warmer temperatures. The balm's consistency can vary with temperature changes, especially during winter.

Wondering about storing your tallow soap?

For handcrafted soaps like ours, a raised soap dish works best. Ensure it dries between uses to prolong its life.

Curious about the shelf life of tallow products?

Although our tallow is of exceptional quality and has a long shelf life, it's ideal to use our products while they are fresh. For best results, we suggest using them within nine months. Our formulations are rich in active ingredients, which is why we employ a food-grade preservative system to ensure their potency remains intact for up to nine months after opening. We advise using our products within 8-12 weeks of opening, as this is when they are most effective.

Is tallow safe for facial use or for children?

Absolutely! Tallow is beneficial for most skin types, even sensitive ones like facial skin. Its composition closely resembles human skin, making it easily absorbable. Rich in essential vitamins such as A, D, K, E, and B12, organic tallow, especially from pasture-raised cattle, works wonders on skin issues like eczema and diaper rashes. Consider it a healthier substitute for mainstream synthetic creams.

Product Disclaimer:

Before using our products, we strongly advise seeking medical attention or consulting with an allergist, especially if you have known allergies or sensitive skin. It is essential to conduct patch tests on small, inconspicuous areas of the body before applying products to larger areas or the face. This precautionary measure helps to minimize the risk of adverse reactions. We care about your well-being and want to ensure your safety and satisfaction with our products.

Thinking of trimming your tallow candle's wick?

Our tallow-beeswax candles are distinct from regular candles in terms of ingredients and their gentle, prolonged burn. Referred to as 'living candles', wick-trimming is optional based on your preference. For safety, always refer to the warning sticker on the candle's bottom.

We pride ourselves on using Eco wicks, which are not only made from cotton sourced locally from the West Coast but also burn cleanly without any lead.

Before lighting up, ensure your tallow candle burns for about 4 hours, forming a uniform tallow wax pool. Trim the wick as and when necessary and never leave a lit candle unattended.
